Do you enjoy interacting with people in an open and friendly manner with your dog? If so, therapy dog work may be just the ticket. Therapy dog work is a volunteer job, a community service, where a trained therapy dog accompanies a handler, usually a member of the dog’s family, on visits to various settings, such as nursing homes and hospitals, in order to provide emotional benefits to the people there.
Workshop instructor, Leslie Dennis, has 10 years experience working with her dogs in therapy situations. While she finds her varied former employment in special education and the performing arts to be of assistance in working as half of the therapy dog team, she feels that such a background is not necessary.
Practice classes and a Therapy Dog Certification Test will be held in conjunctions with this workshop at a future date to be determined.
